Edit Autoexec.bat in Windows 95
NOTE: Autoexec.bat is a special-purpose batch file which is automatically used when the computer is turned on or rebooted.
1) Edit the file Autoexec.bat using Notepad:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Programs' and select 'Accessories'. (A submenu appears.)
c) Select 'Notepad'. (The 'Untitled - Notepad' window appears.)
d) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Open...'. (The 'Open' dialog box appears.)
e) Type the following in the 'File name' box:
<drive>:\AUTOEXEC.BAT
(where <drive>: is the letter name of the local hard disk).
f) Click 'Open'. (The 'Autoexec - Notepad' window appears.)
2) To create a backup of the file Autoexec.bat:
a) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Save As...'. (The 'Save As' dialog box appears.)
b) Type the following in the 'File name' box:
<drive>:\AUTOEXEC.BAK
(where <drive> is the letter name of the local hard disk).
c) Click 'Save'.
3) Make the appropriate editing changes.
4) Save the new Autoexec.bat file:
a) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Save As...'. (The 'Save As' dialog box appears.)
b) Type the following in the 'File name' box:
<drive>:\AUTOEXEC.BAT
(where <drive> is the letter name of the local hard disk).
c) Click 'Save'.
5) To close Notepad, select the 'File' menu and select 'Exit'.
6) (Optional) Restart the computer for the changes to take effect:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Shut Down...'. (The 'Shut Down Windows' dialog box appears.)
c) Select the 'Restart the computer' radio button and click 'Yes'. (The computer restarts.)
